BIO
M'ANAM (“My Soul” in the English language)
The singers of this eight-voice group come from Iceland and Ireland, and their eclectic music explores the deep-rooted connections between these lands. Formed in 2018, the men of M’ANAM encompass a vast range of musical experiences unified together by their compelling songs and performances.
M'ANAM undertake their first tour of the Netherlands in November 2019, and 2020 performances include Celtic Connections in Glasgow in January and their first appearances in Iceland and Canada. Their début album will be released on November 7 2019.
From an elegy for a 10th century Viking in Icelandic (“Deyr Fé”) through to a riveting interpretation of the classic folk song “The Sheep Stealer”, M’ANAM are finding new ways to interpret ancient stories, bringing them into the contemporary world that has become so disconnected from them.
M’ANAM grew from the Irish group ANÚNA and their Artistic Director is Irish composer Michael McGlynn. They are featured artists on the track “clarity”, opener on the latest album by jazz-infused post-rock Japanese band mouse on the keys entitled “tres”. They feature on the soundtrack of the World of Warcraft (Blizzard) video short "Warbringers - Jaina".
